The Future of Codewars: A Message from our CEO

As we begin planning for 2026, I want to share how we’re thinking about the future of Codewars and invite you to help shape what comes next.

Over the past several months, we’ve been reviewing feedback from the recent Codewars Census, the community Discord, our GitHub, and the community moderators to find out what is most top-of-mind. A few themes are clear: people love using Codewars but there is work to be done.

Since I joined Andela last year, one of the biggest questions I’ve been focused on is how do we help new developers level up to senior and prepare all of today’s technologists, no matter their level, for where the industry is headed? Not in theory, but really do it.

I strongly believe that a big part of the answer is investing in making the Codewars platform an even better place to learn and practice. We’re starting with a $1M investment into platform and product features, incentives, events, and more dedicated resources.

But another big part of preparing developers for the future of technology is embracing where the industry is headed: AI.

Why AI Matters Here

The future of software development will be shaped by those who know how to work with AI. How to question it, guide it, and build alongside it. This isn’t a distant possibility; it’s already happening today at lightning speed. If you want to grow in tech today, you’ve got to know how to use AI tools to your advantage. But this only works if those tools are learning from the best possible data sources.

These industry shifts have opened the door for us to create a new revenue stream that will allow us to fund platform development while keeping basic access free for everyone. We have been given the opportunity to partner with several AI labs to help train their tools using a selection of anonymized kata solutions. While our policies have always allowed for this, we wanted to be transparent about how it works and why we’re doing it so we made sure this year’s update spells it all out (privacy policy and terms of service).

What This Means for You

These partnerships will allow us to fully invest in the platform—prioritizing fixes, upgrades, and features that improve the learning experience.

But we don’t want to do this work in a vacuum. We want to hear from you. What changes do you actually want to see? What’s been bugging you? What would make Codewars better? Fill out the survey and let us know your wishlist: https://thisisande.la/4pRRl2U

I look forward to working together to support a platform that reflects the future of tech while staying grounded in the values that brought developers here in the first place.

Thanks for being part of that future.
